The Skyliners

The Skyliners, a U.S. vocal group from Pittsburgh, were formed in 1958 with original members Jimmy Beaumont, Janet Vogel, Wally Lester, Jackie Taylor, and Joe Verscharen. The group gained initial recognition with their hit single "Since I Don't Have You", released in 1959, which peaked at number 12 on the US charts. This song would later be covered by numerous artists, keeping it familiar to the public for decades. The Skyliners continued to release notable singles such as "This I Swear" and "Pennies from Heaven", both of which reached the Top 40. Other classics include "It Happened Today", released in 1959, "Close Your Eyes" (1961), and "Comes Love" (1962). The original lineup disbanded in 1963 but reunited in 1974 without Jackie Taylor to release their last charting single, "Where Have They Gone?". Throughout the years, the group saw several lineup changes, including the addition of members like Jimmie Ross and Bob Sholes. In 1978, they recorded a comeback album for Tortoise International Records, featuring songs like "Oh, How Happy" and "The Love Bug". The Skyliners were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2002.
