The Saturdays

Frankie and Rochelle had been members of the successful S Club Juniors, a younger version of teen favourites S Club 7. They retired in their mid-teens but, having already tasted stardom, the girls were in prime position when Polydor Records decided to form a new girl band to rival stablemates Girls Aloud: Vanessa was recruited from the Sylvia Young Theatre School; Mollie was previously with another girl band, X Factor contestants Fallen Angelz; and Una once represented Ireland in the Eurovision Song Contest. The Saturdays went on tour in 2008 supporting Girls Aloud and their debut single If This Is Love reached No 8 in the UK charts. They subsequently supported the Jonas Brothers, became regulars on TV shows and had further major hits with Up, Issues, Just Can't Get Enough and Work. And - mixing glamour and sex appeal with strong vocals - also had success with the albums Chasing Lights and Wordshaker.
