The Rumour were an English pub rock cum new wave band, formed in 1976 with musicians from disbanded pub rock groups including Brinsley Schwarz and Ducks Deluxe. The group consisted of Bob Andrews on keyboards, Brinsley Schwarz on guitar, Martin Belmont on guitar, Andrew Bodnar on bass, and Stephen Goulding on drums. They debuted as Graham Parker's backing band on his 1976 album Howlin' Wind. In 1977, the Rumour released their first independent album, Max, followed by Frogs, Sprouts, Clogs and Krauts in 1979. The band was known for their hard-driving ensemble playing and tight arrangements. They also backed other notable artists such as Nick Lowe and Dave Edmunds. In 1980, they released Purity of Essence, but the group disbanded by 1981. In 2010, they reformed with bassist Jeremy Chatzky and joined Graham Parker on the album Three Chords Good (2011). Original bassist Andrew Bodnar died in January 2026 at the age of 71.
