The Reindeer Section

The Reindeer Section was a Scottish indie rock supergroup formed in 2001 by Gary Lightbody of Snow Patrol, who served as lead vocalist and guitarist. Lightbody’s early background included playing in local bands before joining Snow Patrol in the late 1990s. The initial breakthrough came when Lightbody challenged fellow musicians at a Lou Barlow gig in Glasgow to create an album together; the group recorded Y'All Get Scared Now, Ya Hear! in late 2001, releasing it on 20 October 2001 and touring with a brief mini‑tour that opened at Belfast’s The Limelight. The single "You Are My Joy" was later featured on Snow Patrol’s 2009 compilation Up to Now and on television series such as Grey’s Anatomy and Queer as Folk. In 2002 the band released Son of Evil Reindeer, a second album with a slightly altered lineup; the track "Cartwheels" appeared in an episode of The O.C. The Reindeer Section performed their final gig on 14 December 2002 at the Queen Margaret Union in Glasgow. Although the group went on hiatus after that performance, its recordings remained a noted example of early 2000s Scottish alternative rock collaboration, with tracks continuing to appear in television soundtracks and compilations.
