Adelaida Martinez, known professionally as The Real Roxanne, was born on July 24, 1963, in Brooklyn, New York. She is an American hip hop MC who gained prominence during the 1980s rap scene. Initially, the role of The Real Roxanne was filled by Elease Jack for the first single "The Real Roxanne." Martinez later took over the character and became the officially sanctioned artist in response to various answer records inspired by UTFO's hit song "Roxanne, Roxanne." The Real Roxanne's breakthrough came with her collaboration with Howie Tee on the single "Bang Zoom! (Let's Go-Go)" which reached number 11 on the UK Singles Chart in 1986. She released her self-titled album The Real Roxanne in 1988, reaching number 30 on the Billboard hip-hop charts. Other notable releases include Go Down (But Don't Bite It) in 1992 and the collaborative album Blowfly Meets Roxanne in 2008. Throughout her career, she released several singles including "Romeo" in 1985, "Respect" in 1988, and "Ya Brother Does" in 1992. After a long break from her music career, she returned in 2010 with the single "I Can't."
