The result of sisters Esmé Dee Hand-Halford (bass) and Sidonie B Hand-Halford (drums) meeting guitarist Henry Carlyle Wade at a birthday party, The Orielles formed in Halifax in 2013 and settled on a musical formula inherited from the spirit of the Manchester scene at the turn of the 1990s. The trio of teenagers still studying at university self-produce, changing labels with each single, EP or cassette release. After recording the Jobin EP (2016), a contract was signed with Heavenly Records, which released the nine-minute track "Sugar Tastes Like Salt", remixed by Andrew Weatherall. A festival tour precedes a return to the studio with producer Marta Salogni for debut album Silver Dollar Moment (2018), followed by a tour with Alex Stephens (keyboards), now a full-fledged member. New musical influences are added to the quartet's second album, Disco Volador (2020), which reaches number 53 in the UK sales charts. Back as the original trio, The Orielles composed the soundtrack for the film La vita olistica (2021), before tackling their third album Tableau (2022), followed by Only You Left (2026).
