The Moonlandingz are a British rock band known for their genre-defying sound, chaotic live shows, and a surreal blend of glam rock, post-punk, and electronic psych. Originally formed as a fictional band created by members of the Sheffield experimental outfit The Eccentronic Research Council (Adrian Flanagan and Dean Honer) in collaboration with Fat White Family members Lias Saoudi and Saul Adamczewski, The Moonlandingz quickly transcended their satirical origins to become a fully-fledged musical force. Debuting with their 2015 self-titled EP, the group garnered attention for their bizarre narratives and cult-like aesthetic, centred around a fictional frontman named Johnny Rocket. Their 2017 full-length debut, Interplanetary Class Classics, produced by Sean Lennon and recorded at his New York studio, received critical acclaim for its mix of sleazy rock anthems, industrial textures, and pop absurdity. The album features guest appearances from Yoko Ono, Randy Jones (Village People), and Phil Oakey (The Human League), underscoring the band's eclectic appeal and art-rock credentials. Despite being initially conceived as a one-off project, The Moonlandingz developed a loyal following and were celebrated for their unpredictable energy, theatricality, and sharp cultural commentary. Their music offers a dystopian yet darkly humorous take on celebrity, consumerism, and British identity. Whether seen as a concept band, a satire of the music industry, or a legitimate psych-rock powerhouse, The Moonlandingz remain one of the UK’s most intriguing and boundary-pushing rock acts of the 2010s. In 2025, they continued to build on their repertoire with the release of their second psych-spiked album, No Rocket Required.
