The Lonely Island

The Lonely Island, an American comedy trio consisting of Andy Samberg, Jorma Taccone, and Akiva Schaffer, formed in Berkeley, California in 2001. The group initially met in junior high school and regrouped after college to pursue a career in comedy and music. Their early work involved creating short films and comedic rap songs, which they uploaded online under Creative Commons licenses. This approach helped them gain traction, leading to their first viral hit, "Lazy Sunday", while working as writers for Saturday Night Live (SNL) in 2005. The Lonely Island's music career began with the release of their debut album, Incredibad, in February 2009. The album featured notable singles such as "Jizz In My Pants" and "Dick In A Box". Their subsequent albums included Turtleneck & Chain (2011), which featured the single "I Just Had Sex", and The Wack Album (2013). The trio also released a soundtrack album for their film, Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping, in June 2016. Throughout their career, they collaborated with various artists and produced numerous viral videos, including "I'm On A Boat" and "YOLO". Their work on SNL led to significant cultural milestones, influencing the landscape of digital comedy and music.
