The Klezmer Conservatory Band

The Klezmer Conservatory Band, an American klezmer band based in Boston, was formed by Hankus Netsky of the New England Conservatory of Music in 1980. Initially created for a single concert, the group went on to release eleven albums. The band's formation was inspired by jam sessions with Irish musicians and featured members primarily from the New England Conservatory of Music's Third Stream department, many of whom had jazz or folk backgrounds. In 1988, they appeared in a documentary on klezmer called A Jumpin Night in the Garden of Eden. The Klezmer Conservatory Band also provided soundtracks for various films and theatrical productions including Enemies, a Love Story, Religulous, Joel Grey's Yiddish music review Berschtcapades '94, The Fool and the Flying Ship narrated by Robin Williams, and Shlemiel the First.
