The Joy Formidable

The Joy Formidable is a Welsh alternative rock ensemble formed in 2007 in Mold, Flintshire. The group consisted of Rhiannon Bryan and Rhydian Dafydd. The ensemble released the recording “Austere” in July 2008, followed by the EP A Balloon Called Moaning in 2009. After signing with Canvasback Records, the band released its debut studio recording, The Big Roar, in 2011. This album featured the tracks “Cradle” and “A Heavy Abacus”. The group's second studio album, Wolf's Law, appeared in 2013 and featured the recording “This Ladder Is Ours”, which reached number 24 on the US Alternative Songs chart. The ensemble’s discography included the studio recordings Hitch (2016) and AAARTH (2018). The band released the album Into the Blue in 2021. Drummer Matt Thomas departed the group in 2024.
