The Hirsch Effekt was founded in Hanover in 2008. The members are Nils Wittrock (vocals, guitar), Ilja John Lappin (bass, vocals) and Moritz Schmidt (drums). The German progressive metal/artcore band mixes post-punk, math rock and metal into complex, often emotional arrangements and expands the sound language of modern hard rock. Their debut album was released in 2010, followed by the parts of the "Holon" trilogy and further studio albums such as Holon: Hiberno (2010), Holon: Anamnesis (2012), Holon: Agnosie (2015), Eskapist (2017), Kollaps (2020), Urian (2023) and Der Brauch released in January 2026; plus EPs and splits such as The Hirsch Effekt (2009), Apogæum / Perigæum (2010), Fixum (2013), Gregær (2021) and Solitaer (2022). The band's name refers to the physiological effect described by the doctor Rahel Hirsch. The band's music is characterized by unusual structures, cross-genre elements and orchestral influences and has earned them recognition in scene circles.
