The Field

Axel Willner, born 1976 in Stockholm, Sweden, is a Swedish electronic musician, DJ, producer, remixer, and instrumentist best known for his work as The Field. After studying at a formal music academy and playing in punk bands influenced by Misfits and Dead Kennedys, he turned to electronic music in the mid‑1990s, performing IDM in Stockholm with Ola Keijer under the name Speedwax. He launched The Field in 2003, blending pop micro‑samples with minimal techno, and signed with Kompakt in 2004. His debut single "Annie" and EP Things Keep Falling Down (2005) introduced his sound; the album From Here We Go Sublime (2007) was listed among Resident Advisor’s decade best. Subsequent releases-Yesterday and Today (2009), Looping State of Mind (2011), Cupid's Head (2013), The Follower (2016), and Infinite Moment (2018)-extended his style with orchestral textures, collaborations with John Stanier and others, and performances at Sónar and All Tomorrow’s Parties. After leaving Kompakt for the Swedish label Studio Barnhus, The Field returned in 2026 with the EP Now You Exist.
