The Blackout All-Stars

Latin supergroup The Blackout All-Stars – featuring Ray Barretto, Sheila E., Tito Puente, Tito Nieves, Paquito D'Rivera, Dave Valentin, Grover Washington Jr., and Tony Pabon – only ever released one single during their short career, but it became something of a cultural phenomenon. Originally written by Tony Pabon and Manny Rodriguez, “I Like It” became a hit for Latin boogaloo mainstay Pete Rodriguez in 1967 and was covered by The Blackout All-Stars for the soundtrack to 1994 comedy-drama film I Like It Like That. Two years later, “I Like It” experienced a new lease of life when it was used in a Burger King commercial, which pushed the track to Number 25 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1997.
