New Zealand indie rock band, The Beths formed in Auckland in 2014 with Elizabeth Stokes (vocals, rhythm guitar), Jonathan Pearce (lead guitar), Benjamin Sinclair (bass) and Ivan Luketina-Johnston (drums, percussion), replaced in 2019 by Tristan Deck. In a power pop style with catchy melodies, the group of former music students made a name for themselves in 2016 with the Warm Blood EP, which reached No. 84 in the charts, followed two years later by the album Future Hates Me, which reached No. 19 thanks to its acclaimed title track. In 2020, its successor Jump Rope Gazers captures the number two spot with the hits "Dying to Believe", "I'm Not Getting Excited" and "Out of Sight", all ranked in the top ten of the New Zealand Artist Hot Chart. After the Covid-19 pandemic and the release of the live album Auckland, New Zealand, 2020 (September 2021), The Beths return to their highest level of popularity with the album Expert in a Dying Field (September 2022), which reaches number one in the New Zealand charts and continues the band's breakthrough in the UK and USA. It includes the four chart-topping singles "A Real Thing", "Silence Is Golden", "Expert in a Dying Field" and "Knees Deep". A deluxe edition released in 2023 added "Watching the Credits" and "Your Side" to the charts . 2025 sees the release of the single "Metal", charting at no. 35 on the Alternative Adult Airplay chart.
