The Almighty, a Scottish hard rock/heavy metal band from Glasgow, was formed in 1988 by Ricky Warwick, Stump Monroe, Floyd London, and Andy "Tantrum" McCafferty. The group's musical roots were in punk, but they adopted a heavier sound for their early releases. In March 1989, the Almighty signed with Polydor and released their debut album Blood, Fire & Love. They also secured a long-term songwriting agreement with Chrysalis Music. The band's second studio album, Soul Destruction (1991), was produced by Andy Taylor of Duran Duran. In 1993, they released their third album Powertrippin', which charted at Number 5 and featured grunge influences. The Almighty toured extensively throughout the early 1990s, supporting acts like Motörhead, Megadeth, Iron Maiden, and Alice Cooper. In late 1994, they released their fourth album Crank on Chrysalis, which saw a shift towards punk roots. Their fifth album, Just Add Life, was released in 1996. The band disbanded later that year due to record company issues. They reformed from 1999 to 2002 and again from 2006 to 2009.
