Initially a rapper with the group The Wooliganz in the early 1990s, Alan Daniel Maman really came into his own as a DJ and producer under the name The Alchemist. Born on October 25, 1977 in Beverly Hills, California, he made his name working on Cypress Hill's album III: Temples of Boom (1995). A protégé of DJ Muggs, he collaborated with Mobb Deep in 1999 on Murda Muzik , then on The Platform by Dilated Peoples. The Alchemist released his first solo album, 1st Infantry, in 2004, worked as Eminem's DJ in 2005, and released numerous mixtapes, including the two volumes of Rappers Best Friends and Russian Roulette in 2012. Associated within Gangrene with Oh No, he released The Alchemist and Oh No Present: Welcome to Los Santos in 2015. He subsequently worked with a wide range of artists, including Nas, Eminem, Jadakiss, Dilated Peoples, Prodigy, Ghostface Killah, Snoop Dogg, Action Bronson, Freddie Gibbs, Conway the Machine, Boldy James and Roc Marciano. In addition to the aforementioned albums, his discography also includes, solo or in collaboration, Chemical Warfare (2009), The Good Book Vol. 1 (2014, with Budgie), You Only Live 2wice (2017, with Freddie Gibbs), The Price of Tea in China (2020, with Boldy James), The Food Villain (2020), Alfredo (2020, with Grammy-nominated Freddie Gibbs), Bo Jackson (2021, with Boldy James), Continuance (2022, with Curren$y), The Genuine Articulate (2024), Life Is Beautiful (2025, with Larry June and 2 Chainz), or Mixed Fruits, Vol. 1: Pineapple Ginger. In 2025, he reunited with Freddie Gibbs for the second volume of their series, Alfredo 2.
