Terrance James Reid, known as Terry Reid, was born on November 13, 1949, in St Neots (Huntingdonshire), England. He formed his first band, The Redbeats, at 13 and wrote his first song, "Without Expression", at 14. Reid's breakthrough came when he joined Peter Jay and the Jaywalkers in 1965, opening for The Rolling Stones on their British tour. His debut single with the Jaywalkers, "The Hand Don't Fit the Glove", was released in 1967. Reid's solo career began with his first album, Bang Bang, You're Terry Reid, in 1968. He supported high-profile musicians such as Cream and Jethro Tull on their tours. Reid turned down offers to join Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple but continued to release albums including River (1973), Seed of Memory (1976), Rogue Waves (1978) and The Driver (1991). A acclaimed compilation, Super Lungs: The Complete Studio EMI Recordings 1966-1969, was released in 2004. On August 4, 2025, Terry Reid died in Rancho Mirage (California), at the age of 75.
