Teresa Brewer

Teresa Brewer, born Theresa Breuer on May 7, 1931, in Toledo, Ohio, is an American pop singer known for her versatile style that incorporated elements of country, jazz, rhythm and blues, and novelty songs. At two years old, Brewer began performing on the radio show Uncle August's Kiddie Show on WSPD Toledo. She later appeared on Major Bowes Amateur Hour, a popular radio program, from ages 5 to 12. In 1948, at 16, she won a local competition and traveled to New York to perform on Stairway to the Stars. It was during this time that she changed her name to Teresa Brewer. Brewer's breakthrough came in 1949 with the release of "Music! Music! Music!", the B-side of her single "Copenhagen" with the Dixieland All-Stars. The song became a hit, selling over one million copies and becoming her signature tune. She signed with Coral Records in 1951 and achieved several successes, including "Gonna Get Along Without You Now" (1952) and "Till I Waltz Again with You" (1953). Throughout the 1950s, Brewer released numerous hits such as "Ricochet", "Pledging My Love", and "Mutual Admiration Society" before switching to Philips Records in the 1960s. Brewer's career saw a resurgence in the 1980s and 1990s as a jazz vocalist, releasing tributes to notable artists such as Count Basie and Duke Ellington. She passed away on October 17, 2007, in New Rochelle, New York, due to progressive supranuclear palsy.
