Tania Libertad

Tania Libertad de Souza Zúñiga, known professionally as Tania Libertad, was born on October 24, 1952 in Zaña, Peru. She began her musical journey at age five, performing traditional songs. Her breakthrough came with her first national hit in Peru, "La Contamanina" (1969). In 1976, she moved to Mexico City and signed with PolyGram. Throughout her career, Libertad collaborated with numerous international artists, including Mercedes Sosa and Joan Manuel Serrat. She has performed concerts across the Americas, Europe, and Africa, marking 50 years as a performer in 2012. Notable albums include África En América (1994) and Tania 50 Años De Libertad (2012). She received the Latin Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award for musical excellence in 2009.
