More commonly known as Taeyeon, Kim Tae-yeon was born on March 9, 1989, in Jeonju, in Jeonju, North Jeolla, South Korea. Initially the most prominent member of the K-pop girl group Girls' Generation, she has also been part of the subgroups Girls' Generation-TTS, SM the Ballad, Girls' Generation-Oh!GG, and the supergroup Got the Beat. Pursuing a parallel solo career in 2015, Taeyeon’s first mini-album titled I, reached number 2 on South Korean charts. She achieved her first number 1 the following year with a new mini-album named Why. 2017 was a successful year for the singer after her debut full-length album, My Voice, topped the charts, with an enhanced version of the album, released two months later, also hitting the Number 1 spot. Additionally, a Christmas EP titled This Christmas: Winter Is Coming secured the number 2 spot at the end of the year. Following the release of the EP Something New in 2018, she released a second album titled Purpose in 2019, with both albums going to number 3 and 2, respectively. Continuing to gain momentum throughout 2020, Taeyeon released EP What Do I Call You returning in February 2022 with a third album named INVU which went to number 2 and was subsequently dubbed one of the best K-Pop albums of the year by Time magazine. The album included singles such as "Can’t Control Myself," "Weekend" as well as the title track which shot to Number 1. INVU made a reappearance on the charts in November 2023, prior to the announcement of Taeyeon's fifth mini-album To. X, issued at the end of the year.
