Tackhead

Tackhead was formed in New York City in 1987 by bassist Doug Wimbish, drummer Keith LeBlanc, guitarist Skip McDonald, and producer Adrian Sherwood, all of whom had previously worked with the Sugarhill Gang and DJ Grandmaster Flash. In 1987 the group issued the album Tackhead Tape Time, followed by Friendly as a Hand Grenade in 1989 that added vocalist Bernard Fowler and refined their signature groove. The 1990 release Strange Things on EMI marked their peak commercial activity, including singles like "Dangerous Sex" and "Class Rock"; the album received mixed reviews and the group was dropped by the label soon after. A brief reformation in 2004 produced a North American and European tour, and a 2022 UK tour featured Mark Stewart. The band’s legacy continues through posthumous releases such as For the Love of Money (2014) and Powerstation 2.0 (2023), and the death of Keith LeBlanc in April 2024 closed a career that bridged funk, dub, and industrial hip‑hop.
