Syreeta

From secretary to singer for the Tamla Motown label, Syreeta Wright (née Rita Wright, 1946-2004) recorded her first single "I Can't Give Back The Love I Feel for You" in 1967, then met Stevie Wonder, whom she married in 1970. Their union lasted only a year and a half, but their musical collaboration continued on each other's albums. She wrote him "Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I'm Yours)" (1970) and "If You Really Love Me" (1971), and he produced her first album Syreeta (1972), which included the duet "To Know You Is To Love You". The next, Stevie Wonder Presents Syreeta (1974), showcased his smooth vocals, while Rich Love, Poor Love (1977), was recorded with former Spinners singer G. C. Cameron, and the hit"Harmour Love" came from the album One to One, released the same year. Syreeta then collaborated with Billy Preston on the duet "With You I'm Born Again", the soundtrack to the film Fast Break and the album Billy Preston and Syreeta (1981). In 1983, Jermaine Jackson produced his last album, The Spell. After retiring for several years, Syreeta Wright returned to the stage with the Jesus Christ Superstar show from 1993 to 1995. She died of heart failure on July 6, 2004, following breast and bone cancer.
