Famous for her 1973 glam rock hit "Can the Can" and future role model for a generation of female rockers from Pat Benatar to The Runaways, Suzi Quatro was born in Detroit, Michigan, on June 3, 1950. Susan Kay Quatro first appeared as a child in her father's semi-professional jazz group, The Art Quatro Trio. It was mainly in the wake of her sister Patti Quatro (Patti Pleasure) that young Suzi Quatro made her rock debut in 1964. She became bassist and singer in the all-girl garage rock band The Pleasure Seekers, formed by her sister and two friends. The adventure didn't extend much beyond the Motor City, and ended in 1969 for Suzi Quatro. The apprentice singer left for England in 1971, answering the call of producer Mickie Most who saw in her the future star of his Rak Records label. The team was rounded out by the songwriting duo of Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman, who were commissioned to write tailor-made songs for the young woman. Dressed in leather and cultivating an androgynous attitude, Suzi Quatro was ready for the success that came with her 1973 glam rock anthem "Can the Can". This British number one was followed the same year by "48 Crash" and "Daytona Demon", which established Suzi Quatro alongside the likes of Gary Glitter and Sweet. Also in 1973, Suzi Quatro 's album performed particularly well in Australia and Germany, but missed the mark in the United States, where the glam rock movement was underdeveloped. Suzi Quatro and the Chinn / Chapman pair were back at it again in 1974 with the hit "Devil Gate Drive" and the album Quatro. Unfortunately for Suzi Quatro, her success was as sudden as her rapid decline, starting with 1975's Your Mama Won't Like Me. The end of the glam rock era also marked the end of fame for Suzi Quatro, who continued her career in a style closer to hard rock. Despite the timid success of If You Knew Suzi...(1978), Suzi...And Other Four Letter Words (1979), Rock Hard (1980), Back to the Drive (2006) or In the Spotlight (2011). After a rock trio album with Andy Scott and Don Powell in 2017, Quatro Scott Powell, Suzi Quatro made a remarkable comeback two years later with No Control, followed by The Devil in Me (2021) and the covers EP Uncovered (2022). In 2023, she collaborates with KT Tunstall on the duet aabum Face to Face.
