sumika

Sumika is a Japanese rock band from Kawasaki, Kanagawa, formed in 2013 by singer and guitarist Kenta Kataoka, guitarist Junnosuke Kuroda, keyboardist Takayuki Ogawa, and drummer Tomoyuki Arai. In the same year, they released their first mini-album Shinsekai Orichalcum, followed by I Co Y (2014), Vital Apartment (2015), and Answer Parade (2016), as well as an EP titled Sally (2016). Their first full-length album, Familia, was released in 2017, and peaked at number 5 on the Oricon weekly charts. After signing with Sony Music Entertainment Japan, they released EP Fiction in April, 2018, which shot to number 3; its title single became the opening theme for anime series Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku. Fanfare/Shunkashuutou followed in August, charting at number 4 after both tracks featured in the anime film I Want to Eat Your Pancreas. Gaining further momentum, they released several top 5 albums including Chime (2019), AMusic (2021) and For (2022), as well as hit singles "Honne/Late Show" (2021) and "Shake & Shake/Nightwalker" (2021). After the untimely death of guitarist Junnosuke Kuroda in February 2023, the group released "Starting Over" in June, returning in May the following year with Unmei EP.
