Sofia Kourtesis

Peruvian DJ, producer, and vocalist Sofia Kourtesis has become one of electronic music’s most distinctive voices, blending house with field recordings, protest samples, and intimate storytelling. Born in Lima on 18 August 1985 and based in Berlin, she draws on her Peruvian roots and queer identity to create luminous tracks that pulse with both political urgency and emotional depth. Her breakthrough EPs Sarita Colonia (2020) and Fresia Magdalena (2021) earned critical acclaim. In 2023, she released her debut album Madres on Ninja Tune, a moving tribute to her mother’s recovery from cancer and the doctor who saved her life. The record confirmed her as a unique force in global house. In 2025, her Volver EP continued her blend of activism and euphoria, dedicating its spirit to the LGBTQIA+ community while honouring Afro-Peruvian traditions.
