Smiley

Real name Alexander Eli Morand, Smiley is a Canadian rapper born in Toronto, Ontario, in 1997. Known for his singular vocal style with a nasally voice and unconventional flow, he first made a name for himself within the Toronto underground scene in the late 2010s with the release of his first mixtape Buy or Bye (2018), a project that laid the foundations for his raw, experimental and offbeat aesthetic. In 2020, he follows up with the YYZ - LAX EP, which shows a certain musical evolution and reinforces his sonic identity. In July 2021, Smiley achieves international recognition with the single "Over the Top", in collaboration with Drake and produced by Tay Keith, which enters the Billboard Hot 100 (#57) and draws widespread attention to his world. A few weeks later, in August 2021, he released his debut studio album Buy or Bye 2 on the OVO Sound label, a 14-track project that included collaborations with Drake, OhGeesy and Pressa, and mixed trap, distorted melodies and characteristic ad-lib. In 2023, he continued his momentum with the I Did What I Did EP, which confirmed his desire to cultivate a personal, often polarizing but immediately identifiable style. The same year saw the release of the Garden Boyz EP, followed by a collaboration with SadBoi for "Fashion Week" (2024). Three more singles, "Spill the Tea", "Understand" and "Money Feen", precede the release of the Don't Box Me In EP (2025), featuring the hit "2 Mazza", again with Drake's participation, alongside other duets with Icewear Vezzo, Why G and Baka Not Nice.
