Shing02

Born Shingo Yasunen on 18 October 1975 in Tokyo, Japanese-American hip-hop MC and musician Shing02 moved to the Bay Area of California at the age of 15, where he became immersed in the emerging hip-hop scene of the 1990s. He gained international recognition for his collaborations with the Japanese producer Nujabes, particularly for their genre-defining "Luv(sic)" series, which has since become a seminal work in the lo-fi and hip-hop scenes. He took his debut work back to Japan for the first time as an MC in the summer of 1997, bringing "Emu Uta no Susume" with him and in 1998 released the singles "Nihon Seijijo" and "Pearl Harbor," channelling his socially conscious aesthetic. He released his debut album Ryoku Oushoku Jinshu (緑黄色人種) in 1999 and notched up two more in the 2000s: 400 in 2002 and Waikyoku in 2006, also continuing to put out releases sporadically over the years, including the Lift the Fog Up EP in 2016 and the Oyanakase EP in 2020. In 2024, he linked with Kan Sano for the "WHATAWON" single.
