Sheila on 7

Sheila on 7 is an Indonesian alternative rock band formed on 6 May 1996 in Yogyakarta by vocalist Akhdiyat Duta Modjo, lead guitarist Eross Candra, bassist Adam Muhammad Subarkah, drummer Anton Widiastanto, and guitarist Saktia Ari Seno. The group emerged from the earlier ensemble W.H.Y Gank and adopted the name Sheila on 7 to reference the seven‑note solfège; the name of their fanbase became Sheilagank. Their debut studio album, Sheila on 7, was released on 16 March 1999 under Sony Music Entertainment Indonesia and quickly reached multi‑platinum status, earning the band a place in Rolling Stone Indonesia’s 150 Greatest Indonesian Albums of All Time (ranked #13). The follow‑up Kisah Klasik Untuk Masa Depan (20 September 2000) topped the Billboard Malaysia Hits Albums chart and was listed at #8 in the all‑time best‑selling Indonesian albums. In 2004, the band released Pejantan Tangguh, which sold over 450 000 copies, and later issued compilations such as The Very Best of Sheila on 7: Jalan Terus (2005). After drummer Anton’s departure in 2004, Brian Kresna Putro joined, remaining until 2022. The group continued to release singles-including "Hari Bersamanya" (2010), "Ambilkan Bulan" (2011), and "Lapang Dada" (2014)-and signed with their own label 507 Records in 2018. In November 2024, they issued the single "Memori Baik" featuring Aishameglio. Throughout their career, Sheila on 7 has sold an estimated eight million album copies in Indonesia and achieved significant chart success across Southeast Asia.
