Sharda Sinha, born on October 1, 1952, in Hulas, Bihar, India, was a notable Indian folk singer. She began her career singing Maithili folk songs and later expanded to include Bhojpuri, Magahi, and Hindi languages. Her breakthrough came with the release of Maithili Songs - Sharda Sinha in 1975. Throughout her career, she released numerous albums including Birhi Basuriya (1989) and à¤à¤µà¤¾à¤¨à¥ दयानॠ(1992). She was known for her Chhath-related devotional songs such as "Supawo Naa Mile Maai" and "Pahile Pahil Chhathi Maiya". Sinha also lent her voice to Hindi film songs, including "Kahe Toh Se Sajna" from Maine Pyar Kiya and "Koyal Bin" from Kekra Se Kahan Mile Jala. She received numerous awards, notably the Padma Shri in 1991 and the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2000. Sinha passed away on November 5, 2024, at the age of 72.
