Shannon

Shannon was born in Washington, D.C. on May 2, 1958. The US singer's real name is Brenda Shannon Greene and she is considered one of the defining figures of the freestyle and early dance-pop scene of the 1980s. Brenda Shannon Greene began working professionally in the New York club and electro scene in 1983. She achieved her breakthrough in 1984 with the single "Let the Music Play", which became internationally successful and made the freestyle sound known to a wide audience. The song reached top 10 positions in several countries and became a reference title in the genre. Stylistically, Shannon moves between freestyle, dance-pop, electro and R&B. Her clearly articulated voice combines club aesthetics with pop structures. The debut album Let the Music Play was released in 1984 and entered the US album charts. This was followed by Do You Wanna Get Away (1985) and Love Goes All the Way (1986), which produced further chart successes. Other well-known singles include "Give Me Tonight", "Do You Wanna Get Away" and "Stronger Together", which reached top positions in the US dance charts.
