Shadow of Intent is an American symphonic, technical deathcore band founded in 2013 in Hartford, Connecticut, by vocalist Ben Duerr and guitarist Chris Wiseman. Initially a studio project inspired by the world of the video game Halo, they made a name for themselves with the EP Inferi Sententia (2014) and then the album Primordial (2016), both recorded at home with programmed drums and orchestral arrangements. Their notoriety grows with Reclaimer (2017), which blends deathcore brutality with complex melodic flights of fancy. In 2019, they released Melancholy, hailed as a milestone of the genre, driven by dark themes such as collective suicide and existential crisis, with orchestrations by Francesco Ferrini of Fleshgod Apocalypse. The album Elegy (2022) marks an important milestone: for the first time, the band integrates a drummer and a bassist in the studio, giving more power and depth to their sound, while propelling them up the Billboard charts. After the orchestral perspective of Elegy: The Soundtrack (2024), Shadow of Intent returned in June 2025 with a fifth album entitled Imperium Delirium, featuring George "Corpsegrinder" Fisher. With various changes since the previous album, the band now includes Ben Duerr, Chris Wiseman, Andrew Monias (bass) and Bryce Butler (drums).
