Serj Tankian

Serj Tankian, an American musician of Armenian origin, was born in Beirut, Lebanon, on August 21, 1967. Best known as the lead singer and founding member of System of a Down since 1992, Serj Tankian has pursued a solo career since the band's break in 2006. This political activist and animal rights defender released the album Elect the Dead in 2007, before offering the live recording Elect the Dead Symphony in 2010. Released the same year, Imperfect Harmonies ventures into jazz and electro influences, proof of Serj Tankian's eclecticism. In 2012, the third solo album Harakiri returned to raw, melodic metal. The musician then diversified his activities, composing numerous film scores, symphonic rock and classical projects and Jazz-Iz Christ (2013), where he dabbled in jazz fusion with Tigran Hamasyan. After the poetry album Cool Gardens Poetry Suite in 2021 and two volumes of the classical Illuminate series in the same year, Tankian produced the experimental Covers, Collaborations & Collages, released in 2025.
