Scowl

Scowl are a Santa Cruz-based hardcore punk band known for their explosive energy, genre-blending sound, and unapologetic approach to self-expression. Formed in 2019, the band quickly gained attention with their raw, emotionally charged music and dynamic live performances. The band currently comprises Kat Moss (vocals), Malachi Greene (guitar), Mikey Bifolco (guitar, joined in 2023; touring member in 2022), Bailey Lupo (bass), and Cole Gilbert (drums). Scowl's debut EP, Scowl, was released in 2019, followed by Reality After Reality… later that same year. In 2021, they released their first full-length album, How Flowers Grow, through Flatspot Records. The album received critical acclaim for its blend of aggressive punk riffs, intense vocals, and thought-provoking lyrics that captured the raw emotion of youth and social struggles. In 2023, Scowl released Psychic Dance Routine, an EP that pushed their sound further into punk rock territory while still maintaining the abrasive energy of their earlier work. The EP was produced by Will Yip and marked a significant shift in the band's sound, with a more refined production style and a sharper focus on melody and rhythm. In 2024, Scowl signed with Dead Oceans and released their sophomore album, Are We All Angels, in April 2025. The album features tracks like “Not Hell Not Heaven” and “Special,” which showcase the band's evolution and continued commitment to their unique sound.
