Schwefel

Schwefel was a German band founded in 1984 by Mannheim-based musician and producer Norbert Schwefel, born on August 22, 1960. Initially, Schwefel recorded tapes and vinyls for various Mannheim bands, playing all instruments himself before incorporating guest musicians. The band's early releases, including Strange Orchestras (1984) and Schizophrenic Party (1986), garnered critical acclaim in the club and independent scenes despite lacking a major label. Schwefel achieved notable success with albums like Hot in Hong Kong (1988), which topped several music magazine charts and remained in the top 10 of the German independent charts. The band's career saw fluctuations, including a hiatus from 1992 to 1999 when Norbert Schwefel focused on winemaking. Notable later releases include Edge City (2001), an industrial-influenced concept album about Mannheim, and Mystifier (2003). In 2012, Thomas Nelliste left the band, leading to a solo continuation by Norbert Schwefel until his death on July 23, 2015.
