In 2011, the band Santiano is put together by producer Hartmut Krech in Schleswig-Holstein. Their best-known songs include "Es Gibt Nur Wasser", "Mädchen von Haithabu" and "Wellermann". The band consists of Hans-Timm "Timsen" Hinrichsen, Axel Stosberg, Björn Both, Andreas Fahnert and Peter David "Pete" Sage. They are all multi-instrumentalists and are supported by other musicians at live concerts. Their debut album Bis ans Ende der Welt is released in 2012 and immediately climbs to the top of the German charts. The mixture of folk and sea shanties, mixed with rock and pop elements, was so well received by listeners that the albums Mit den Gezeiten (2013), Von Liebe, Tod und Freiheit (2015) and Im Auge des Sturms (2017) also reached number one in the German charts and were awarded several platinum awards. In 2013, 2014, 2016 and 2018, Santiano won the Echo Pop award for "Best Group: Popular Music". The band also celebrates chart success with their albums in Austria and Switzerland. In 2019, Santiano play an MTV unplugged concert. Santiano will be supported by Angelo Kelly ("Land of Green"), Wincent Weiss ("Hoch im Norden"), Alligatoah ("Wie Zuhause") and Michael Robert Rhein from In Extremo ("Liekedeeler"), among others. In 2021, the fifth studio album Wenn die Kälte kommt builds on the previous successes. It reaches number 1 in Germany and Switzerland and climbs to number 4 in Austria. Doggerland, the next Santiano album, is released in fall 2023. In Germany, the album climbs to the top of the charts again. At the end of October, Santiano released Da braut sich was zusammen, another number 1 album in Germany. The album reaches number 7 in Austria and number 11 in Switzerland.
