Sanctuary

Sanctuary, an American thrash/power metal band from Seattle, was formed in 1985 by vocalist Warrel Dane, guitarists Lenny Rutledge and Sean Blosl, bassist Jim Sheppard, and drummer Dave Budbill. The group initially gained traction by performing covers before transitioning to original material. Sanctuary's breakthrough came when Lenny Rutledge met Dave Mustaine of Megadeth, who agreed to produce the band. Their debut album Refuge Denied (1988) received positive reviews and led to extensive tours with acts like Megadeth and Testament. The follow-up album Into the Mirror Black (1990) was also critically acclaimed. However, pressure from Epic Records to shift towards grunge music led to the band's disbandment in 1992. Sanctuary reunited in 2010 for festival performances, leading to new albums The Year the Sun Died (2014) and Inception (2017). Warrel Dane passed away in December 2017.
