Sam Rosenthal, born in 1973 in the United States of America, is an electronic musical instrument player known for his work as a musician, composer, artist, and novelist. In 1983, Rosenthal founded Projekt Records to release his solo electronic music. The first vinyl release under Projekt was Tanzmusik in 1985. In 1986, he formed the band Black Tape for a Blue Girl, known for its gothic and ethereal sound; their debut album, The Rope, was released that year. Throughout the late 1980s and early 1990s, Projekt Records expanded to include other artists such as Lycia. Rosenthal's solo albums include An Hour Of Ambience (1985), Before the Buildings Fell (1986), and The Passage (2011). In addition to his musical career, Rosenthal is also a novelist, having released The First Pain to Linger in 1996. In 2020, Rosenthal released the albums Sunwashed Evening Fire in collaboration with Jarguna and Tim, Where Are You Now?. He also released an album titled Islands in 2025.
