RubberBand

RubberBand, a Cantopop group originating from Hong Kong, was formed in 2005 by vocalist Mau Hou‑cheong, guitarist Clement Fung Ting‑ching, bassist Lee Siu‑wai, and drummer Lai Man‑wang; the quartet first gained attention after signing with Gold Typhoon in 2006, following a discovery by Mark Lui. Their third release RubberBand Concert #1 (2010‑01‑05) introduced the band’s blend of pop and socially conscious lyrics, and the single "逆流之歌" (2018‑05‑31) later became a notable chart entry. Subsequent albums—Easy (2012‑08‑08), Gotta Go (2016‑01‑08), Hours (2018‑09‑28), RubberBand Ciao 2021 (2022‑05‑10), and JUNTOS (2023‑12‑20)-showed a steady evolution in sound, while EPs such as 呢度 (2016‑12‑17) expanded their repertoire. In 2018 the group established its independent label R flat, and in 2023 announced the Ciao world tour, featuring stops in London, Manchester, Berlin and Amsterdam, aimed at the diaspora audience. The band’s politically engaged stance was evident during the 2014 Hong Kong protests, and their music faced temporary broadcasting restrictions in 2022. Key singles like "Ciao" (2021‑06‑18), "宇宙大王" (2023‑05‑08), and "讓世界都懂" (2024‑06‑26) have maintained commercial presence, while their 2023 EP "戀人日常(的直線抽擊)" received critical acclaim for its lyrical depth.
