RubberBand, a Cantopop group originating from Hong Kong, was formed in 2005 by vocalist Mau Houâcheong, guitarist Clement Fung Tingâching, bassist Lee Siuâwai, and drummer Lai Manâwang; the quartet first gained attention after signing with Gold Typhoon in 2006, following a discovery by Markâ¯Lui. Their third release RubberBand Concert #1 (2010â01â05) introduced the bandâs blend of pop and socially conscious lyrics, and the single "鿵乿" (2018â05â31) later became a notable chart entry. Subsequent albumsâEasy (2012â08â08), Gottaâ¯Go (2016â01â08), Hours (2018â09â28), RubberBand Ciaoâ¯2021 (2022â05â10), and JUNTOS (2023â12â20)-showed a steady evolution in sound, while EPs such as å¢åº¦ (2016â12â17) expanded their repertoire. In 2018 the group established its independent label Râ¯flat, and in 2023 announced the Ciao world tour, featuring stops in London, Manchester, Berlin and Amsterdam, aimed at the diaspora audience. The bandâs politically engaged stance was evident during the 2014 Hong Kong protests, and their music faced temporary broadcasting restrictions in 2022. Key singles like "Ciao" (2021â06â18), "å®å®å¤§ç" (2023â05â08), and "è®ä¸ç齿" (2024â06â26) have maintained commercial presence, while their 2023 EP "æ人æ¥å¸¸(çç´ç·æ½æ)" received critical acclaim for its lyrical depth.
