Australian pop-rock and indie pop band, Royel Otis was founded in Sydney in 2019. Its name derives from the combination of the first names of its two members, multi-instrumentalist Royel Maddell and singer Otis Pavlovic. Their collaboration begins with a few exchanges of demos, before the two artists work together on a first studio EP. This materialized in October 2021 under the name Campus. In August 2022, the pair put the finishing touches to their successor, Bar & Grill . But it wasn't until the third, Sofa Kings , that Royel Otis made an appearance in the national charts in Australia, appearing at number 43. These successive experiences led Royel Otis to the next step, the recording of a full-length studio album, Pratts and Pain, which saw the light of day in February 2024. This first album wins four awards at the ARIA Music Awards 2024. In August 2025, the band releases the album Hickey, ranked #5 in Australia and an international success.
