Royal Scots Dragoon Guards

The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards, a cavalry regiment of the British Army, were formed on July 2, 1971 through the amalgamation of the 3rd Carabiniers (Prince of Wales’s Dragoon Guards) and The Royal Scots Greys (2nd Dragoons). Members of the regiment’s Pipes and Drums began releasing music shortly after their formation, with their first single “Heyken’s Serenade / The Day Is Ended” released on August 4, 1972. Later that year, their rendition of “Amazing Grace”was released as a single and became a UK Number 1 hit, remaining at the top of the chart for five weeks. In 2007, they released the album Spirit Of The Glen on November 26, produced by Jon Cohen for Decca Records and recorded at the Red Hot Chilli Pipers’ studio. The regiment has been involved in numerous military deployments including Northern Ireland, the Gulf War, Bosnia, Kosovo, Iraq, and Afghanistan. Their contributions to both military service and music have earned them a distinguished place in British military and cultural history.
