Roy Woods, born Denzel Spencer, comes from the Drake-inspired school of R&B fused with rap. Like Drake, Woods hails from Toronto and has been mentored by the artist, signing to Drake's OVO Sound label, an initiative supported and backed by the might of Warner. Winning the patronage of a major player like Drake so early in his career has launched Woods as a rising star in the R&B world. His debut 2015 release, a six-track EP titled Exis, featured the single Drama performed in collaboration with Drake. It reached number 27 on Billboard's R&B/Hip-Hop Chart and was followed by the album Waking At Dawn released on digital download which peaked briefly at number six in the US R&B Chart.
