Roopkumar Rathod

Roop Kumar Rathod, born in Mumbai, India, is a singer known for his contributions to Ghazal, Indian pop, light classical, Sufi music, fusion, and jazz. The son of the late Pandit Chaturbhuj Rathod, a renowned exponent of Dhrupad, Roop Kumar began his musical journey in the 1980s as a highly sought-after tabla player before transitioning into vocals. His playback singing debut came in the film Angaar (1992), and he also sang in the film Gumrah (1993). However, his true career breakthrough came with the song "Sandese Aate Hai" from the film Border (1997). Rathod's career spans well over three decades, marked by notable fusion album releases such as Beat of Love (2001) and Broken Rhythms (2004) with Trilok Gurtu, as well as the Sufi album Kalma (2011) released with his wife, Sunali Rathod. He has contributed extensively to films as a playback singer, with popular songs like "Tujh Mein Rab Dikhta Hai" from Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi (2008) and "Piya" from Tanu Weds Manu (2011). His collaborations include working extensively as a percussionist and tabla player for renowned Bhajan singer Anup Jalota.
