Romeo's Daughter, a British AOR group formed in 1985, emerged from the UK alternative rock scene with Leigh Matty on lead vocals, Craig Joiner on guitar, Stephen Drennan on bass and Andy Wells on drums; the bandâs early exposure came through the single "Don't Break My Heart" in 1988, which entered the UK charts at Number 97 and helped secure a deal with Jive Music for Nations. Their selfâtitled debut album Romeo's Daughter (1988), coâproduced by Mutt Lange and John Parr, produced the hit "Heaven in the Back Seat" (1989) and established the group as a contemporary rock act; the followâup album Delectable (1993) saw a more mature sound but received less promotion, leading to the bandâs dissolution in 1995. After a reissue campaign in 2008, Romeo's Daughter reformed and released Rapture (2012), Spin (2015) and Slipstream (2023), touring extensively across Europe and the UK, including appearances at Firefest VI (2009) and WinterStorm (2023). Leigh Matty was ranked Number 5 in Classic Rockâs âLady Rock Singer of All Timeâ list in 2012 and later placed 24th in the 2024 list of 40 Best AOR Voices of All Time, while the bandâs singles such as "Bittersweet" (2012) and "Alive" (2013) contributed to their enduring presence in the hard rock genre.
