Born Da’mario Donshay Horne-McCullough on May 11, 1994, in Flint, Michigan, Rio Da Yung OG began recording music as a teenager and emerged professionally during the late 2010s as the first rapper signed to Peezy’s Ghetto Boyz Entertainment. His conversational delivery, dark humor, punchline-heavy writing, and largely chorus-free songs over piano-led production helped define the Flint branch of Michigan rap. During a period of house arrest in 2019, he released seven projects, including 2 Faced and entries in the Dum and Dumber series with frequent collaborator RMC Mike. The former contained “Legendary,” which later earned platinum certification, while “Too Legendary” was certified gold in 2026. Rio continued his prolific run with City on My Back and Accidental Shit Talkin in 2020 before recording the reflective “Last Day Out” ahead of his incarceration in 2021. He began serving a 60-month federal sentence after pleading guilty to possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug-trafficking crime, but previously recorded material continued to appear through Fiend Lives Matter in 2021, The F Tape in 2023, and Rio Circa 2020 in 2024. Rio left federal prison for community confinement on December 11, 2024, and released “RIO FREE” two days later. The ten-track RIO FREE EP followed in January 2025, accompanied by a US tour that opened with two homecoming concerts at Detroit’s Masonic Temple. In August, F.L.I.N.T. (Feeling Like I’m Not Through) paired his established Michigan sound with contributions from Peezy, RMC Mike, YN Jay, VonOff1700, Star Bandz, and Zillionaire Doe; the expanded STILL F.L.I.N.T. followed later that year. He closed 2025 with Bfb Da Packman on the collaborative project Olympic Shit Talking. After undertaking the 62-date Welcome Home Tour, Rio returned to the road for the 2026 World Is M.I.N.E. Tour. Its accompanying single, “Finna Drop (Tour),” introduced the 22-track The World Is Yours, released through M.I.N.E. Entertainment and Empire in September 2026.
