Richard Tognetti

Richard Leo Tognetti, born in Canberra, Australia, is a musician, violinist and composer. He began his violin studies with Harold Brissenden, William Primrose, and Hiroko. At 11, he was admitted to the Sydney Conservatorium High School. In 1980, Tognetti won the National Youth Concerto Competition in Brisbane. He later pursued post-graduate studies at the Bern Conservatory with Igor Ozim. Upon returning to Australia in 1989, he was appointed leader and artistic director of the Australian Chamber Orchestra (ACO). Under his leadership, ACO has become one of the world's leading chamber orchestras, touring extensively across Australia and internationally. In 2010, he was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia for his services to music.
