Red Velvet

Red Velvet is one of the highest-streamed K-pop acts in the world, with a long list of Number 1 albums in the group's native South Korea. Formed in Seoul in August 2014, the group's all-female lineup originally consisted of Bae Joo-Hyun (who goes by the name "Irene"), Kang Seul-gi ("Seulgi"), Shon Seung-wan ("Wendy"), and Park Soo-young ("Joy"). The debut single "Happiness" was released in 2014 and reached Number 5 in South Korea, followed by the group's chart-topping debut EP, Ice Cream Cake, in March 2015. A fifth member, Kim Ye-rim ("Yeri"), joined in 2015 and appeared on the group's Number 1 debut album, The Red, later that year. A list of chart-topping releases followed, including The Velvet (2016), The Red Summer (2017), Summer Magic (2018), and The ReVe Festival: Day 1 (2019). Red Velvet also reached Number 1 with a handful of singles, starting with The Red Summer's "Red Flavor." By the time the 2010s drew to a close, the group had returned to Number 1 multiple times with songs like "Power Up," "RBB (Really Bad Boy)," "Umpah Umpah," and "Psycho." 2022 brought even more success, with the group returning to Number 1 with the EP The ReVe Festival 2022 - Feel My Rhythm, hitting Number 3 with the title track "Feel My Rhythm," and breaking into the Japanese market with the album Bloom. Chill Kill followed in 2023, reaching Number 1 in South Korea, number 10 in Japan, and number 11 on Billboard's US World Albums chart. The album became the band's most successful release to date in South Korea, where it was quickly certified double-platinum. The EP Cosmic followed in mid-2024 and earned another Top 40 hit with the title track "Cosmic," which reached number 16 on South Korea's Top 100 Apple Music chart.
