Recess Monkey

Recess Monkey, a trio of current and former elementary school teachers from Seattle, formed in 2005. The band initially performed adult-focused independent rock as The Waiting Room before transitioning to children's music. Their debut album Welcome to Monkey Town was released in 2005, marking the start of their prolific career in family-oriented music. Recess Monkey consistently released an album each year, including Aminal House (2006), Wonderstuff (2007), and Tabby Road (2008). In 2017, they received a Grammy nomination for Best Children's Album with Novelties (2016) which also won multiple awards from organizations such as the Parent’s Choice Award board and NAPPA. The band has performed at major festivals like Lollapalooza and Austin City Limits, and notable venues including Symphony Space in New York City and the John F. Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. They have also collaborated with other family musicians and appeared at significant events such as the Seeds of Compassion event with The Dalai Lama.
