Raymond Shaban Mwakyusa, known professionally as Rayvanny, was born on August 22, 1993, in Nzovwe ward of Mbeya city, Tanzania. He gained initial recognition through a rap freestyle competition in high school and later joined the music group Tip Top Connection. In 2016, Rayvanny released "Kwetu", which became a hit in East Africa and marked his breakthrough moment. The same year, he was nominated for an MTV Africa Music Award in the Breakthrough Act category. He signed with WCB Wasafi Records in 2015 and released several EPs and albums including Flowers (2020) and Sound from Africa (2021). Rayvanny's notable collaborations include "Mama Tetema" with Maluma, which won him an EAEA People's Choice Award for Best Global Collaboration in 2022. He founded his own record label, Next Level Music, in 2021 and left WCB Wasafi Records in July 2022 to focus on it. He followed with the album The Big One (2021) and the EPs Flowers II (2022) and Flowers III (2023). In 2025, he teamed by Asian artists Vishal Mishra, Shreya Ghoshal and Nora Fatehi for the single "Oh Mama! Tetema", ranked number 19 on UK's Afrobeats chart
