Ranking Dread

Winston Brown, known as Ranking Dread, was a Jamaican reggae deejay born in 1955 in Trelawny. He gained recognition on the Ray Symbolic sound system in Jamaica before moving to London to work with Lloyd Coxsone’s sound system. His debut album, Girls Fiesta, was released in 1978. Dread collaborated with Sugar Minott on the album Lots of Loving (1980). He had a minor UK success with the song “Fattie Boom Boom” (1981). He died in prison in Jamaica in 1996.
